Storm Dudley also causes a nuisance in Germany. Due to storm damage, the fire brigade has to turn out frequently in various places. Flights have also been cancelled, and some trains are not running.

According to the German weather service, on the Brocken, the highest mountain in northern Germany, wind speeds of more than 120 kilometers per hour were measured in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, with one peak to 152 kilometers per hour. According to the weather service, there are also “hurricane-force wind speeds” elsewhere in the country. Therefore, just like in the Netherlands, an official storm warning applies.

As far as is known, the storm caused no major damage, and no injuries were reported. In Berlin, among other places, the fire brigade is busy with fallen trees and loose roof tiles by Ylenia, as the storm is called in Germany. A state of emergency was declared around 2:30 am because the fire brigade had to carry out about forty to fifty missions simultaneously. It would have been lifted two hours later.

Train traffic is experiencing problems due to the storm, for example, due to fallen trees on the track. Rail company Deutsche Bahn reports that long-distance trains are temporarily not running in several states. In addition, airline Lufthansa has cancelled at least 20 flights as a precaution due to the storm. These are planes that would depart from Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt.

In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, schools have been closed as a precaution because of bad weather so that children do not have to go outside. Students in different Lower Saxony or Bavaria regions have been allowed to stay at home for a day. Furthermore, some zoos, cemeteries, markets and other outdoor locations are closed.
