Fewer Corona Infections in UK, But Highest Death Toll in Months

The number of corona infections in the United Kingdom continues to decrease. 23,511 new cases were reported to authorities on Tuesday, less than the day before for the seventh day in a row.

The number of newly reported deaths is at 131 at the highest level since March.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson calls on people to remain cautious. “It’s imperative that we don’t jump to conclusions,” Johnson said. It is not clear why the number of new infections is now declining rapidly.

Since May, more and more Britons have tested positive for the coronavirus. The peak (54,674) was on July 17. The increase is due to the extra contagious Delta variant of the virus and the abolition of many corona measures in the United Kingdom.

The virus circulated among young men who watched the European Football Championship together. Especially in England, where virtually no restrictions apply, many people have recently become infected.
