Discord, the popular chat app, comes with a new way to organize and archive conversations. Unfortunately, the thread function seems to be mainly aimed at busy servers where you otherwise risk losing the overview.
You have known ‘Threads’, literally threads, from Twitter, forums, Slack and others. However, in Discord, which was initially created as a chat medium for gamers, this was not possible until now.
However, servers with so-called ‘community’ functions can now create separate conversations from messages. This should make it easier to set aside conversations that have nothing to do with the subject and to keep an overview.
You can start a thread by clicking the hashtag symbol in the menu that pops up when you hover over a post. Such a thread is then automatically archived after a preset period. By default, this is 24 hours. Community Server admins currently have the option of turning the feature on.
Nevertheless, it will be rolled out automatically from August 17. So for the smaller servers without Community functions, nothing will change for the time being.
