Twilio Lays Off Tenth of Staff Again

Cloud communications giant Twilio announces a round of layoffs for the second time in a year. This time around 1,500 people will be evicted.

Twilio says it wants to lay off 17% of its employer base and close several offices. The communications company employs around 9,000 people after an earlier round of layoffs in September 2022. That would mean that about 1,500 will be put at the door this time.

In addition to layoffs, savings are also made on benefits for existing employees, such as vacation days.

According to CEO Jeff Lawson, the company currently has a strong market position, but more needs to be done. Twilio is therefore split into two branches, Twilio Data & Applications and Twilio Communications.

There would be many redundancies in the latter department in particular. In addition, the reorganization puts the company in an ever-growing list of IT companies that have announced rounds of layoffs in recent months.
