Simona Halep (WTA 7) has won the women’s final of Wimbledon against Serena Williams. The 27-year-old Romanian waltzed across Serena Williams (WTA 10) in two short sets.

The 37-year-old American lost no chance with 2-6 and 2-6 in less than an hour. It is the second Grand Slam for Halep, which won Roland Garros last year.

Halep and Williams had met each other eleven times, and it was only the second time that the Romanian team was in the lead.

Before that, she never got further than the semi-finals in Wimbledon. It is her second Grand Slam: in 2018 she already won Roland Garros.

Williams was in the Wimbledon final for the eleventh time. Seven times (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016) she won the All England Club.

Last year Williams went down in the final against the German Angelique Kerber. Williams gets stuck on 23 grand slam titles in the singles. Margaret Court is the record holder with 24 titles.
