Russia has acquired a patent for its own vaccine against the coronavirus. Russia is, therefore, the first, according to President Vladimir Putin.

The news channel Sputnik reports that it is a vaccine that has been developed by research institute Gamaleja in collaboration with researchers from the Ministry of Defense.

Putin said a daughter of his also had the vaccine. The medicine consists of two parts that must be administered separately.

As of June 18, trials have been conducted with 38 people who have all become immune. The Russian leader said he had asked his health minister, Mikhail Murashko, to keep him informed continuously.

The vaccine works “reasonably well” and “provides stable immunity to the virus,” Putin said. He hopes that large-scale production can start soon and many people can be vaccinated.
