Merkel Defends New Debts Under Exceptional Circumstances

According to Chancellor Angela Merkel, the new debts that Germany incurs for the government’s budget plans are justified by the exceptional situation that caused the corona pandemic.

The extra expenditure it foresees as a result of the economic problems that the corona measures entail.

She recognizes that the new sizeable loans taken out by the state will put a heavy burden on households and will also limit the spending of future generations.

But she thinks it’s necessary. She also thinks hotels should remain closed over the coming Christmas holidays.

According to Merkel, the German ‘lockdown light’ has not ensured that people keep enough distance and therefore even stricter measures are needed in her view.
