The mayor of Kyiv has announced a 35-hour curfew for the city. The small 2 million inhabitants must be in on Tuesday at 8 p.m. local time and cannot leave the door until Thursday morning.

The curfew comes after several residential complexes were attacked by Russian forces outside Kyiv, leaving at least two dead. Russian soldiers advance towards Kyiv as they try to encircle the city.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko calls on citizens to prepare for the curfew, which in practice is comparable to a short lockdown. The measure does not apply to people who want to go to a shelter or have special passes.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, Kyiv has been repeatedly the target of Russian attacks. Strict curfews were also announced earlier.
