IEA Reports Record Sales of Heat Pumps in Europe

Sales of heat pumps in Europe rose to a record level last year due to sharply higher energy prices. The International Energy Agency (IEA) reports this in a report.

According to the IEA, European sales jumped 40 percent compared to 2021 to nearly 3 million heat pumps.

Due to the sharp rise in energy prices and the sharp drop in supplies of Russian natural gas to Europe, the popularity of heat pumps is increasing among households because they can save energy. Many European countries also have incentives for households to switch to heat pumps. In addition, heat pumps help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the IEA, air-to-water heat pumps are top-rated. This category saw a sales increase of almost 50 percent.

The IEA states that most of the new heat pumps were sold in the major markets of France, Germany and Italy. Almost half of the new pumps were sold there. However, according to the think tank from Paris, sales doubled in countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic. More than 100 million households worldwide now have a heat pump, according to the IEA.
