Facebook Uses Artificial Intelligence for Adult Content Detection

Facebook has announced a system that uses artificial intelligence to search for so-called adult content so that it can be removed more quickly from Facebook and Instagram.

The system not only searches for nude images, but also for almost-nude images. According to Facebook, the technology can even recognise photos and videos that have been shared via Facebook and Instagram without permission.

Facebook can take revenge porn offline before anyone else reports it.

According to the company, that is important because victims would often be afraid to report themselves, for fear of retribution. Besides, victims often do not yet know that there are sensitive images of them online.

A specially trained member of the Facebook moderation team reviews the images and videos that are reported, both by people and by artificial intelligence.

If there is indeed revenge porn, then the images are deleted, and Facebook makes a ‘digital fingerprint’, so that repeated attempts to share the images do not work.
