Soda maker Coca-Cola offers employees in North America a voluntary severance package.

The company faces changes in its soft drinks business and job cuts are part of the strategy.

The scheme has room for at least 4000 employees. Initially, it concerns employees in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Arrangements will also be made in other countries.

The company calculates that it will spend $ 350 to $ 550 million in severance payments. Coca-Cola also does not rule out layoffs.

The soft drink maker has aligned its strategy with the increasing demand for healthier drinks.

The company is also a topic of discussion in the environmental debate about disposable bottles. This presents challenges for Coca-Cola and its peers.
