Skilled Europeans who want to work in the United Kingdom for a more extended period must, after the Brexit, meet high-income requirements just like migrants from the rest of the world.

 

How high, Prime Minister Theresa May and her ministers have not finished yet after a year of quarrelling.

Lower skilled EU migrants can still come from 2021, but not longer than a year and without the right to social security or family reunification. That is what Minister of the Interior Sajid Javid announced on Wednesday in the House of Commons.

The call for an immigration restriction was decisive in the EU referendum. May, after taking office, was determined to stop the free movement of people, which meant that a good agreement with the European Union would be virtually impossible.
