The US city of San Francisco has been hit by a huge power failure. About 90,000 people are therefore without power. As a result, people got stuck in the elevator and traffic stopped.

Around 9:00 local time the power went out in the center and north of the city. That also prevented the traffic lights from working. The traffic in the city was completely stuck.

The fire brigade received more than 100 phone calls from people who were in trouble.

20 people had to be rescued from a lift that stopped when the flow dropped away. No wounds have been reported.

Problems with restaurants and shops also arose. Because the ATMs did not work, only cash could be paid at shops.
