Google Experiments With AI Only Search Mode

Google has started a mode that only shows AI search results. In this mode, you no longer get links, but only summaries generated by Google’s AI.

Google has been working on AI-driven search results for some time. Although they are not yet visible in our country, American users have been getting AI summaries above their ‘normal’ link overview for many searches.

In the past year, users have also often criticised these because they sometimes hallucinate. For example, Google’s AI would recommend using glue in a pizza recipe.

But those who are big fans of the AI mode can now test an ‘AI Only’ search mode in the US, among other places. According to Google, it is built entirely with a conversational model and would let users ask the search engine ‘complex, multiple questions’. The idea is that asking additional questions can help you get more depth from the search query. The function is based on a modified version of Gemini 2.0, Google’s generative AI model.

The model is only available to subscribers who have signed up for testing at Search Labs, a beta testing system.
