Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to work with Europe on a peace proposal and present it to the United States. “We need peace, not endless war,” the Ukrainian leader said.
In the near future, all of us in Europe will determine our common position, what we want to achieve, and what we cannot compromise on,” Zelensky said.
Ukrainian allies promised to spend more money on defense in London on Sunday and to form a coalition prepared to defend a possible ceasefire in Ukraine. The summit was shortly after US President Donald Trump attacked Zelensky for not wanting peace.
Under Trump, the US no longer seems to want to support Ukraine and is trying to reach a peace settlement with Russia.
After the summit, London and Paris said they wanted a limited ceasefire. That would stop air strikes, fighting at sea and attacks on energy infrastructure. Before Sunday’s summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that France and Great Britain are working on a proposal for a ceasefire that will be discussed with Trump.
