The United States has blacklisted hundreds of employees of a Syrian Research Center. The institution is held responsible for developing chemical weapons for the Syrian government.
This is mainly financed by the measure. American banks must freeze their funds. Also, US companies cannot do business with these blacklisted 271 employees of the Syrian Center for Scientific Studies and Research (SSRC).
According to the department, the people who have been added to the sanctions list have in some cases been working for Syria’s chemical weapons program for more than five years.
Minister Steven Mnuchin (Finance) said that the US was determined to close the “financial networks of all persons involved in the production of chemical weapons that commit atrocities”.
