Ukrainian President Hopes to Get a Parliamentary Majority. About 30 million voters are allowed to go to the polls in the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine on Sunday to elect representatives for their parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.

The favourite is the party of President Volodymyr Zelensky Sluha Narodu (Servant of the people). That party could well get up to 50 percent of the votes.

22 parties are coming up, and 424 mandates can be given, 225 through party lists and 199 through direct elections. The first forecasts are expected around 7 p.m.

The elections are crucial for Zelensky. His party is not yet represented in parliament, but he needs a majority to implement the reforms he promised.
