President Zelensky has vowed to track down the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of a Ukrainian soldier. Images circulating on social media show how an unarmed man is cold-bloodedly shot while smoking in a well.
Ukraine demands that the International Criminal Court in The Hague launch an investigation.
“We will find the killers,” said Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky in response to images going viral online. These images show how a Ukrainian prisoner of war is shot in cold blood. First, the man stands in a well, which will most likely serve as his grave, lights a cigarette, and speaks “Slava Ukraini” (Glory to Ukraine). Then he gets the bullet in the head.
The Ukrainian army identified the soldier as Timofij Shadoera. He was reported missing on February 3. According to his regiment, he was last seen near Bachmut in eastern Ukraine. There is heavy fighting in and around the city. The Russian army has made territorial gains there in recent weeks.
The perpetrators of the murder have not yet been identified. Therefore, Ukraine demands that the International Criminal Court in The Hague intervenes and investigates the images.
A few hours after the video appeared on Twitter, the hashtag #GloryToUkraine became one of the popular trends on the social media platform. Cartoons, photos, and videos appeared praising the man’s bravery.
According to the Ukrainian and Western authorities, this case is not isolated. There would be evidence of thousands of war crimes since the invasion of the Russian army in February 2022.
