Sony Interactive Entertainment, the gaming arm of the Japanese group, is acquiring game developer Haven Entertainment Studios. Sony did not disclose financial details.

Haven was founded in March last year by Canadian game developer Jade Raymond. She was the founder of the popular Assassin’s Creed game series at the French gaming giant Ubisoft. There are currently some sixty employees working at Haven.

Sony invested in the start-up of the new Canadian game studio and is now fully incorporating it. This brings the number of game developers owned by the Japanese group to eighteen. Haven is currently working on his first project for the PlayStation, Sony’s game console. This is a new online multiplayer for the PS5 that takes place in a constantly evolving world.

The gaming sector has seen a major wave of consolidation in recent months. In January, Sony already bought the developer Bungie, the former Microsoft studio behind the games Halo and Destiny, for more than 3 billion euros.

Microsoft announced that it would acquire game publisher Activision Blizzard (with titles such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo and Candy Crush) for about 60 billion euros. Earlier, publisher Take-Two Interactive (including Grand Theft Auto and the Red Dead series) had already announced that it wants to acquire game developer Zynga (of Farmville fame) for about 10 billion euros.
