Russian Media Watchdog wants Explanation from Yandex
The Russian media watchdog Roskomnadzor wants clarification from the search engine Yandex, after Google Docs documents with sensitive data appeared in the search results.
That is what the Russian news agency TASS reports. The exact information that the authority has requested is not precise.
Yandex started this week by displaying unprotected Google Docs documents in its search results. Besides, documents with sensitive information were also searchable, such as passwords and personal data.
How that could happen is not clear. According to the Russian news site Meduza, Yandex has indexed the documents after the links to the pages have been used in the browser or the e-mail service of the internet company.
Google stated in a statement that search engines can only index Google Docs documents made public by their administrators, or if someone places a link to a document whose owner has indicated that anyone can view the document.
