Kurds Talk with the Syrian Regime to Maintain Autonomy Gained. The Syrian Kurds are going to talk about cooperation with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

After an initial meeting on Saturday in Damascus, it was agreed that various joint committees would try to draft a ‘roadmap towards a democratic and decentralised Syria’.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) has informed this. Nothing was announced on the part of the Syrian government.

According to the SDC, the initiative for the meeting came from the government, but it is mainly the Kurds who seem to have an interest in rapprochement. The emphasis on a ‘decentralised’ Syria also fits in their way.

The Kurds want to prevent them from losing everything they have fought over the past seven years: a significant degree of autonomy in the north and northeast of the country.
