US Vice-President Kamala Harris believes the United States “should do better” to fight against racial inequality in health care.
Her post on Twitter comes after a black doctor died of Covid-19 who complained about poor treatment during her hospitalization.
“This tragedy is all too recognizable for black women across our country, whose concerns and pain are often downplayed or ignored in our health care system,” wrote Harris, who will serve as both the first black and female vice president of the US as of January 20.
“We need to do better. Our government is committed to tackling this dire health inequality.”
Harris posted her comment alongside a magazine article about physician Susan Moore, who passed away in the state of Indiana on December 20, two weeks after posting to social media about her treatment from her sickbed.
Moore said she should have “begged” for a CT scan and was told she was not a candidate for treatment with the antiviral remdesivir as she wanted.
