Facebook Messenger has 1.2 billion users and thus is the largest messaging app in the world.
Facebook Messenger grew by more than 700 million users since Facebook service in 2014 accommodated in a separate app, says Messenger head, David Marcus.
Until now, Facebook Messenger user number was still slightly behind that of WhatsApp. As WhatsApp in February 2016 reached the milestone of one billion users, Messenger until July 2016.
Facebook Messenger is the step since expanded to include separate app with audio and video calls, games and support for chat bots.
With both Messenger and WhatsApp are shipped about 60 billion messages daily, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said earlier.
Meanwhile, Facebook has 1.9 billion monthly active users. Instagram, like WhatsApp owned by Facebook, has about 600 million active users.
