Another UN Refugee Pact is Approved in New York
The new UN refugee pact was approved in New York. And contrary to the much-discussed UN Migration Pact, almost everyone can live with it.
The pact has the vast majority of the UN member states behind them. Only the United States of President Donald Trump and the Hungary of Viktor Orbán voted against.
Where does this UN refugee pact come from and what is it about? All the UN member states signed the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants in 2016.
That explanation served as the starting point for two texts. The migration pact, which is aimed at people who leave their country for economic reasons. And the refugee pact.
According to the UN refugee organisation UNCHR, the refugee pact is necessary because almost 70 million people are currently on the field.
