The British police arrested more than 830 climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement last week. The London police report this on Sunday. Last Friday XR activists were also arrested in The Hague.
XR’s attempts to block Heathrow airport in London failed on Friday. Earlier in the week, the activists caused significant traffic disruption in the British capital, where they occupied essential traffic junctions.
The authorities have summoned the demonstrators to limit their actions to the area around Marble Arch. The police take action against demonstrators at other locations, such as Waterloo Bridge.
Approximately twenty climate protesters from Extinction Rebellion were arrested on Friday at a protest in front of Shell headquarters in The Hague. Twelve of them, according to the police, had caused vandalism and eight others had not listened to orders from agents.
Some clung to the doors at the entrance. Slogans were written on the windows, people were lying in body bags on the floor, and fake blood was on the stairs.
They demonstrated against what they call “climate disruptive actions by the oil and gas multinational.” According to them, the company is guilty of “large-scale ecocide.”
Last week the group also came in the news because they also threw buckets full of fake blood on Plein in The Hague. They were then hurled on the receipt because they did not leave the place clean enough.
They also occupy the International Court of Justice this week. Several protesters were arrested there for house breach. Extinction Rebellion says it wants to change the system to limit the damage caused by the climate crisis.
