Greek journalists are on strike for 24 hours to protest the train crash that recently killed 57 people. The unions demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Instead of the news, the media broadcast old documentaries, music programs and films. The news would not be available again until midnight on Thursday. In addition, the newspapers will not appear the next day, the journalists’ unions further announced.

There was no news online either. However, “24 hours of silence for the 57” can be read on the sites of the main news portals.

The passenger train crashed after the station master sent the plane on the wrong track in the city of Larisa. But research now shows that, in addition to this mistake, neglected rail infrastructure and the political inability to address it are also at the root of the disaster.

The journalists’ unions, other unions, and Greeks are asking that those responsible for the accident be brought to justice. National demonstrations are planned for Thursday.
