“We consider this a violent event and will remove content that supports or praises the action,” a spokesperson said.

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, is removing posts approving the storming of government buildings in Brazil.

Earlier, the Brazilian Supreme Court had ruled that the channels that would have organized or supported the riots should be closed. Seventeen accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and Twitter had to be closed by court order, but a few were still active on Monday.

Social networks would have played an important role in the organization of the attack.

Supporters of outvoted ex-president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the parliament building, the Supreme Court and the Planalto presidential palace in Brasilia on Sunday. It took police hours to regain control of the situation.
