US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with CNBC that he expects new trade talks with China to occur within a few weeks.
Last weekend, the United States and China agreed on a substantial temporary reduction of mutual import duties in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to Bessent, new talks should discuss a more detailed trade agreement between the US and China. He did not specify when and where these talks should take place.
Bessent also reiterated that Washington does not aim to decouple the American economy from China completely and that President Donald Trump’s administration will protect the American chip and steel industries.
