Shell will shut down liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at a major project in Australia due to worker strikes. Sources reported this to the Bloomberg news agency.
As a result of these actions, the gas from the floating production platform Prelude cannot be transferred to LNG tankers.
Prelude employees have been campaigning for better working conditions for a long time and plan to continue on strike for longer. Shell was able to continue production earlier, although the volume was reduced. Prelude can produce 3.6 million tons of LNG per year.
But now Shell would like a complete production stop because the storage tanks are getting full. In that case, most of the personnel on Prelude will be evacuated. The production vessel is located off the northwestern coast of Australia.
