Nearly 6,000 Russian soldiers were killed in Ukraine last week, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky reported in a new video message. According to him, Russia cannot win the war with “bombs and missiles”.
Russia acknowledges that its troops have been killed and wounded but has not reported any numbers so far. Tens of thousands of Russian troops are involved in the invasion of Ukraine.
Zelensky also responded to the Russian rocket attack on the Holocaust memorial in Kyiv. “This attack proves that for many people in Russia, our Kyiv is absolutely foreign,” the president said. “They don’t know anything about Kyiv, about our history. But they are all tasked with erasing our history, erasing our country, erasing us all.”
The president, himself of Jewish descent, has called on Jews worldwide not to remain silent. “Nazism arises in silence. So shout about the deaths of civilians. So shout about the murders of Ukrainians.”
