WHO Declares Monkey Pox an International Public Health Threat

Two people have died from the monkeypox virus since the last update from the World Health Organization (WHO) a week and a half ago.

A total of three people have now died from the virus this year.

All three deaths came from Africa, according to WHO. In the last week and a half, monkeypox has emerged in nine new countries. This brings the total to 58 countries in the world.

More than 6,000 cases of monkeypox have been informed worldwide, 80 percent of which are in Europe.

Those who contract monkeypox can suffer from fever, headache, muscle aches and general malaise. After a few days, blisters appear on the skin. Usually, people do not become seriously ill from an infection.
