The massive anti-corona vaccination campaign in Israel shows that the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine works. That writes The Jerusalem Post.
Research shows that less than 0.1 percent of the twice vaccinated still get sick. The vaccine is 93 percent effective, which is more or less in line with the pharmaceutical company’s test results. This showed an efficacy of 95 percent.
The study was conducted by Maccabi Healthcare Services, one of the four major health care providers in Israel, which has vaccinated over a million residents. Data up to Feb. 11 shows that of the 523,000 people who have already received a second shot, only 544 people became infected with corona.
Most of them had little or no symptoms of the disease. 15 of them ended up in the hospital. The condition of four of them was described as severe, of three as moderate. None of the doubly vaccinated died.
“The data conclusively proves that the vaccine is very effective. It has saved the lives of many Israelis,” said Maccabi’s chief executive Miri Mizrahi Reuveni.
Israel is widely praised worldwide for its energetic vaccination campaign. The number of hospital admissions for corona has fallen sharply in the country, and the number of corona deaths aged 60 or older has also decreased dramatically. Nearly 40 percent of the 9 million inhabitants have now had at least a first injection.
