Taiwan Reports First Death From Coronavirus in 8 Months
Taiwan has again reported a death from the coronavirus for the first time since last May. It concerns an eighty-year-old with health problems.
The island nation off the Chinese coast is one of the world’s countries that survived the pandemic best. Taiwan, with over 23 million inhabitants, has reported about 900 corona cases. This mainly concerns people who contracted the virus abroad.
Taiwanese authorities have recently been dealing with an unusual local outbreak around a hospital in Taoyuan city.
The deceased woman was part of the household of a nurse who contracted the virus, according to authorities. The eighty-year-old got a high fever before her death and then tested positive.
Since the beginning of the month, 19 infections have been linked to the new outbreak in Taoyuan. Taiwan has taken steps to get the situation under control. Thousands of people are in quarantine, and events have been cancelled.
