New York schools will remain closed until September. The mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio, has said that this is necessary to stem the spread of the new coronavirus.

The city’s public schools closed March 16 and may reopen April 20. But this is not realistic according to De Blasio, who has decided to keep the schools closed for the rest of the school year.

The city and the eponymous state are the epicentres of the virus in the United States.

More than 94,000 infections and 5,400 deaths have been reported in New York City. A third of all corona deaths across the U.S. have fallen in or around the city.
