Indian Minister: Apple and Samsung Want to Expand in India
Major technology companies such as Apple and Samsung plan to expand electronics production in India.
Indian Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said this in an interview with Bloomberg news agency. India is competing with China as a major technology production site.
India is already an essential producer of smartphones from Apple and Samsung but also wants to increase production in other areas. To stimulate the local production of laptops, tablets and other items, India is allocating USD 2 billion for tax benefits and other financial incentives for computer companies such as Dell and Lenovo, according to the minister.
“We’ve had significant success in the smartphone segment, and we’re seeing increased interest from Apple and Samsung in expanding this further.
Now we want to repeat that and build on it,” said the minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is also trying to attract chip companies to India. Indian billionaire Anil Agarwal has plans to build a large chip factory in the country for $ 19 billion.
