Hong Kong Media Mogul Charged Again

Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai has been charged with sedition and six former employees.

Lai has already been jailed for his participation in a Tiananmen memorial last year, which marked the suppression of student protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989.

His current prison sentence is 20 months, but under new legislation imposed by Beijing, Lai could face life in prison.

Lai owned the now-defunct pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily, which played a central role during the banned pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong in 2019.
