Google School Time Feature Aims to Reduce Smartphone Distractions Among Students

Google is launching a new feature that will help parents manage the apps on their children’s smartphones and tablets during school hours.

According to the tech company, the feature, called School Time, is in line with the smartphone ban in primary and secondary schools that will take effect next school year. The feature aims to reduce students’ distractions.

Schooltime is part of Family Link, a Google app that already allows parents to control what their children can do on their devices. Parents can now also turn off apps and notifications during school hours. Moms and dads can also see which apps are being used and how often.

Additionally, School Time allows them to select specific apps useful for schoolwork, making them usable. During vacations, days off, or even lunch and playtime, parents can adjust the phone settings and take a “break” that fits their children’s schedules.

Approve contacts
Google has introduced a new feature alongside Schooltime, allowing parents to set who their children can communicate with. Specific contacts can be approved, and children can then request approval to add new contacts.
