Sometimes you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Do you buy the latest trends and risk that they won’t suit you or do you stick to the classic styles and feel a little meh about it ?
Here are some points to consider.
Face Shape
Just because a particular style and shape of sunglasses is new and on trend it doesn’t mean its going to suit your face. Don’t make the mistake of wearing a pair of sunglasses that don’t suit you just because they are the latest trend. It’s not going to work. You are better off sticking to a more classic style that suit your face.
Longevity.. How long will the trend last ?
How long is the trend going to last. Many Gucci sunglasses trends are usually good for a season or two. That’s usually 18 months tops. Now depending on how big your investment is in your sunglasses, they will usually look dated after this time. You need to think about whether your happy to purchase another pair after this.
Your outfit.
You need to think about whether having the latest on trend pair of sunglasses is going to work with a number of different outfits. For example. Will you wear this pair for everyday wear ? To work ? To the beach ? To the races ?To Sunday afternoon drinks. Now. Depending on what you do for work for example. This may or may not work. If your in a professional job that calls for a suit, shirt and tie or skirt and top, you will know if the pair your intending to buy is going to work with this outfit for everyday wear.
If, however, you work outdoors or are a tradesperson, this pair of sunglasses may not be suitable for everyday wear. For starters, if you are outdoors, your likely wearing them all the time and throwing them around, not to mention that your likely in casual or trade workwear. Is wearing the latest trend sunglasses going to look silly with your work attire ?.
How many pairs of sunglasses do you own ?
Many people ask us this question. How many sunglasses should I have ? The answer to this is very simple. How many do you need ? Lets take a look further into this.
For Men
You should have one good pair and one everyday pair.
One good pair is for when you go out, to the races, an event or a wedding. These are the pair that go with your suit or chino pants and shirt. They are your dressy pair of sunglasses. These are the pair you can also wear on a Sunday afternoon out with friends. Keep this pair in their case so they don’t get scratched and worn out. To complete your going out look you want this pair of sunglasses to look new and unworn.
Your everyday pair of shades. This is the pair that you keep in your glovebox. They might be a more casual style like a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers just a sports pair like Von Zipper, Spy Sunglasses or Dragon Sunglasses. These are usually the lightweight and made of acetate plastic that are good for the everyday use. And well, if they get scratched, they are your every day pair.
For Women
You should have a classic pair and an on-trend pair.
When going out on a Sunday afternoon or to a work function. You never know what you will wear usually till the last minute. This is why it’s good to have a classic pair or an on-trend pair of sunglasses to match your outfit. If your outfit is very classic and demure – a pencil skirt, long dress etc, a classic pair of sunglasses will work. Examples being Oval shaped, Oversized or a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers.
And one more for the ladies… possibly a spare everyday pair.
I always keep a pair of spare sunglasses in the glove compartment. You never know when you’re caught without your sunglasses and you are driving in the glaring sun. These would be possible a cheaper pair of sunglasses that you would probably throw around a bit. However, do consider having this pair as polarized to help you when driving at sunset. This helps to reduce the glare from blinding you.
It’s always good to have a few different pairs of sunglasses. Both to match your outfit, but also for the different purposes whether it be for driving, everyday wear or for going out.
Sunglasses for Kids
Best to have just one throw around pair. With kids, nothing is sacred. Consider a pair of sunglasses that will only last 6 months if they are being worn all the time. Kids tend to get things scratched easily so this is something to bear in mind.
