Chipmaker CEO STMicroelectronics Becomes CEO of Ferrari
Ferrari has a new CEO. Benedetto Vigna, who comes over from chipmaker STMicroelectronics, will be tasked with transforming the Italian sports car maker into the era of electric driving and other technological innovations.
The appointment of Vigna shows, among other things, that there is an increasing shift within the automotive industry, with technology playing an increasingly prominent role.
At STMicroelectronics, Vigna helped develop the screen sensor technology in the iPhone 4, among other things. This technology is now used worldwide in smartphones and in-vehicle navigation systems.
Vigna currently heads STMicroelectronics’ analogue sensor group. He will replace Louis Camilleri at Ferrari in September.
He abruptly resigned in December. For now, Ferrari is relatively slow with the bet on electrification. Only recently did the manufacturer come up with the plan to launch an all-electric model by 2025.
