The British vaccine costs no more than 2.8 pounds per dose and, like the three times more expensive vaccine Sputnik V from Russia, can be kept in the refrigerator.
The widely adopted US-German Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is estimated to be five times more expensive per dose and must be deep-frozen at minus 70 degrees. In Britain, 600,000 people have already had a Pfizer vaccine.
Now the British health authorities want to start on January 4 with vaccinations with the British vaccine. The country will have a total of 40 million doses available by the end of March. Incidentally, sixty million more doses have already been ordered from Oxford / AstraZeneca by the British government.
According to Oxford / AstraZeneca boss Pascal Soriot, the vaccine is currently also working against the new version of the coronavirus that has surfaced in England. But according to him, the vaccine is continuously being worked on to be prepared for anything.
The prices paid for vaccines are often shrouded in mystery. The large pharmaceutical companies do not want it to be made public which discounts they have given specific customers.
