The outages at the OpenAI and Meta services have been resolved. However, many users were inaccessible to Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram for hours.
On Wednesday evening, users of Meta’s services reported disruptions worldwide. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were inaccessible for several hours. The Belgian website Allestoringen also received many reports, starting around 7 p.m. The problem has now been resolved.
“Thanks for your understanding! We are 99 percent there – just doing some final checks,” Meta wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We apologize to those who were affected by the outage.” Meta did not say precisely what was going on.
This is already the second major outage for Meta this year. In March, Facebook and Instagram users could not log in for several hours.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot, was also down for several hours at night from Wednesday to Thursday. Due to technical problems, the AI video maker Sora also worked poorly.
OpenAI did not immediately announce the cause of the malfunction. On Wednesday, Apple implemented updates to integrate ChatGPT into its newer iPhone and iPad apps, such as Siri, the assistant.
