The International Organization for Migration (IOM) asks for more than half a billion dollars for humanitarian aid to war refugees in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
The humanitarian need in the region is increasing, and additional support is urgently needed, reports the Swiss-based UN agency.
Since the Russian invasion more than two months ago, more than 7 million Ukrainians have been internally displaced, and more than 5.3 million Ukrainians have fled their country. In addition, more than 233,000 people of other nationalities have left Ukraine.
The IOM is trying to support 8 million people in Ukraine and 2 million abroad with a campaign that will last until December. The latter mainly refers to Poland, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Therefore, governments and aid organizations in those neighbouring countries can count on continued support.
This concerns shelter, belongings, protection, food and (psychosocial) health care. The organization also supports people who want to return to Ukraine.
