Britain’s Prince Andrew will attend a memorial service for his father, Prince Philip, on Tuesday. The 62-year-old discredited Andrew was on the list of invitees.
Still, his presence was actually included in the planning of the day on Tuesday morning, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
It is the first time since his father’s funeral that Andrew has appeared in public again. Prince Charles’ brother was discredited when the American Virginia Giuffre claimed that the Duke of York abused her several years ago when she was still a minor. In early March, the case came to an end when Andrew paid a settlement amount.
Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s husband, died in his sleep at the age of 99 on April 9 last year. The memorial service is attended by, among others, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain and King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are also sitting on the benches of Westminster Abbey in London on Tuesday. The Norwegian royal couple has cancelled because King Harald contracted corona last week.
Prince Harry, Philip’s grandson, and his wife Meghan are also not present at the service. Harry does not feel safe in the UK and therefore stays at home in California, where he and Meghan live with their children Archie (2) and Lilibet (9 months).
