Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Izyum on Wednesday. The city in the northeast of the country, located in the Kharkiv region, was recently recaptured by Ukrainian troops.

Zelensky took part in a ceremony where the Ukrainian flag was raised, the army said. The president thanked the soldiers for liberating the city.

“Our blue and yellow flag is already flying in unoccupied Izyum. And so it will be in every Ukrainian city and village. We are only going in one direction: forward and to victory,” Zelensky said via Telegram.

The Ukrainian army is making rapid advances in Kharkiv. According to Zelensky, more than 300 places have been recaptured from Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced last weekend that it had withdrawn its troops from Izyum, among others, for “regrouping” in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.
