WHO Needs 35 Billion Dollars to Tackle Coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) needs an additional $ 35 billion to tackle the coronavirus internationally, of which $ 15 billion will be in the next three months.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of the United Nations warns against this.

The money is intended for the WHO’s global ACT Accelerator program, created to support the development of vaccines, treatments and diagnoses.

According to Guterres, countries have already contributed about $ 3 billion to this. But according to Guterres, that was just the start-up capital and money is now needed to scale up.

“There is a great deal of urgency in these figures,” said the Secretary-General. “Without a $ 15 billion boost over the next three months, starting immediately, we’ll lose momentum.”

WHO boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also called on countries to donate on Thursday.

“We need to rapidly scale up our clinical trial, manufacturing, licensing and regulatory capabilities so that these products reach people and can save lives.”
