Tor Version Twitter Must Evade Russian Censorship
Messaging platform Twitter has launched a Tor website. This should make it possible to tweet from countries where the service has been banned.
The move appears to have been prompted primarily by the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent action in Russia itself.
Russians who express their dissatisfaction with the war can face up to 15 years in prison, and platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have been shut down since last week.
Tor has to get around some things now. The browser enables anonymous browsing by sending traffic over a network of encrypted servers, each linking to the other in order to hide from the websites you visit.
The service has long been used by dissidents and activists and should allow users to read news and messages censored by governments.
