The number of coronavirus infections in the United States has increased by a record 53,069 over the past 24 hours.
For the third day in a row, it is the most substantial daily increase in the US since the outbreak of the virus, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
The US, meanwhile, has 2.73 million infections.
The death toll in the US from Covid-19 has risen to 128,677. The record was also broken on Thursday. Then 52,898 new infections were counted.
States are taking new measures every day to contain the virus.
In Texas, Republican Governor Greg Abbott has tightened the rules for wearing face masks. In recent days, more than 8,000 infections have been added in the state.
In Florida, the number of infections grew by more than 10,000 in 24 hours on Thursday.
