Rescuers have found a survivor at the mine in Siberia where an accident took place on Thursday. So far, the death toll stands at 52, including three rescuers.
All miners who had not yet been rescued were expected to have died. The survivor was taken to hospital.
Two security inspectors have been arrested in the area for negligence. They issued a safety certificate earlier this month without actually checking the mine. Three other people, including the director and deputy director of the mine, were also arrested on Thursday.
A gas leak started a fire at the mine in the Kemerovo region. The salvage work is being slowed down considerably by the leaked gas because there is a risk of explosion.
285 people were working in the mine shaft on Thursday, 239 of whom were quickly rescued.
