Ryanair wants the European Commission to favour the EUR 3.4 billion support package for KLM.
According to the Irish price fighter, there is illegal state aid, and the aid package also distorts competition.
It is certainly not the first time that Ryanair has opposed government support to airlines.
Previous government support for Air France and Lufthansa has also received Irish resistance.
According to KLM boss Pieter Elbers, the aid meets the conditions of Brussels and is in no way a “free ride”.
The aid to KLM is in addition to a support package from the French government of EUR 7 billion, which means that the aid to Air France-KLM amounts to EUR 10.4 billion.
