A subsidiary of pharmaceutical company Indivior has admitted a criminal charge on Friday as part of a $ 600 million settlement.
The United States Department of Justice had respondent the company of wrongfully imposing treatment on people addicted to heavy painkillers (opioids).
“When a drug manufacturer claims to be part of a solution for opioid addicts, we expect fairness and candour to government officials, as well as the physicians and patients who make important treatment decisions based on those statements,” Michael Granston said on behalf of the ministry in a statement.
The settlement has yet to be permitted by a federal judge.
Indivior is said to have made billions of dollars by lying to doctors and health care organizations that some version of his painkiller addiction drug was safer than that of its competitors.
